Part I - Metal Detecting WW2 Artifacts at Tavern Site, page 36
Testing the WW2 Gunpowder
Boy, was I wrong!!! Suddenly the rest of gunpowder started catching the flame, and it was growing fast!
Wild Flame Dance Began
Unexpectedly the flame took a COLOSSAL form! I could not have imagined its size!
I knew I should not place my camera so close to the PILLAR OF FIRE!
HOLY MOLLY!!!
The flame was shooting out many burning particles leaving their smoky traces, so I quickly moved my camera away from the "explosion"!
The WW2 gunpowder still had its might! Stabilizers that were added to the gunpowder have prevented its self-decomposition very well. It was hard to believe that a small amount of gunpowder taken from an oxidized round for the WW2 rifle or light machine-gun could produce such a show. This was just a simplest exhibition of the WW2 gunpowder's potency. Now you can imagine what deadly power lies in any unexploded WW2 artillery projectile!
More information on dangerous WW2 unexploded ordnance is presented on Dealing with Hunt Sites Infested with WW2 Military Junk page.
