Coil Lugs Cracked and Began to Fall Off in Tall Grass

by Ruslan H. in Alytus, Latvia - three stars

One day I arrived at a promising site in an old farm field overgrown with tall grass. 30 minutes into the hunt, the searchcoil loosened and began to wobble. At first I thought that the coil bolt itself unscrewed. But when I inspected the coil, I realized that my detecting day was over. The coil lugs were cracked and ready to fall off. Yes, the construction of the Equinox is poorly built, but you can get used to it, but the coil failure was completely unexpected. I have been metal detecting with different detectors for 15 years now and I have taken every single one of them through hell, but I have never had such a terrible failure with any of them. It is sad to realize that a leading brand has resorted to cheap, short-lived plastic to avoid the high cost of a detector.

Found Three Gold Chains on my First Beach Hunt!

by Peter S. in Palm Bay, FL USA - best

This machine works as advertised. On my first ocean beach hunt, I found three gold chains in the surf! I am satisfied. This multi-frequency metal detector is a great performer! I have been using it for a year, only one problem so far. It is the pole that wobbles, possibly due to the weak pole locks. This causes annoying false signals. I guess I need to replace this pole with a telescopic carbon shaft not to have too much noise.

It Works Well in My Soils but Falls Apart

by Janice Q. in Newburgh, NY USA - three stars

I have used the Nox for one season and found some old coins. It took me a while to get used to its noisy behavior regarding ground mineralization and areas with intense EMI. Other detectorists advised me to increase the discrimination level to solve the problem with ground noise. I did, and it worked. As for the second problem with EMI, I could not solve it in any way, and I simply avoid such places. In the middle of this season, a stem became flimsy causing lots of noise. The worst came at the end of this season when an arm-rest broke off. I am really p...ssed off. This detector is not rugged at all! I gave it 3 stars just for performance and wireless headphones.

Nox Found More Goodies at Sites Searched Out with XP Deus

by Shawn L in England - best

The Equinox 800 is an awesome machine. I have swung it over heavily Deus hunted areas and got a ton more targets. Minelab solved the speed issue nicely. I use a fast Recovery Speed and separation, ID. And detection depth is amazing. I highly recommend the nox!
